Tom Brady’s name has always been linked to greatness. Of course, winning 7 super bowl championships greatness is an understatement for Brady.
However, after suffering a loss to the L.A. Rams this weekend, father time might have caught up to the 44-year-old Quarterback.
Adam Schefter reported via ESPN that, “Brady’s departure is a topic that quietly has come up within the Tampa Bay organization for weeks now, and there has been internal uncertainty about what the future holds for the seven-time Super Bowl champion and all-time NFL passing leader.”
Brady has been vocal with his desire of playing until his mid 40’s. Now with a year left in his contract, the 44-year-old wants to take some time in mulling his next steps as he enters the 2022 season.
“Brady, 44, plans to take time after the season ends — a month or longer — to assess how he feels physically and mentally while also gauging his family’s desires,” ESPN report said.
In addition, some reports say, if the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl again, Brady’s chances of walking away from the game would increase. This Championship aspiration was unfortunately derailed earlier than the Buccaneers wished for.
Led by their new quarterback in Matthew Stafford, the L.A. Rams overcame the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-27 in a heavyweight divisional-round matchup.
After the loss, no one had a clear answer if Brady was willing to be back in Tampa next season. But the Bucs want the GOAT to be back badly. Without a clear successor on the quarterback spot, the Buccaneers could be one of the great takers in the quarterback free agency market. With Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask amongst those to fill out the rest of their QB depth chart.
Brady’s next steps will be one to watch in the foreseeable future.
